In addition to making it a priority to read more in 2024, my daughter and I also made it a practice to seek out and patronize small, independent bookstores in our area.

This is a list of black literature I’ve read and enjoyed.

I love being black and being part of the black culture. I love my skin. I love my hair. I love: soul food, the black arts movement of the Harlem Renaissance, making up songs when I’m crackin’ a joke, and stomping my feet and clapping when I laugh. Yes, I’m a black woman. I’m a Christian, black woman. And at times I enjoy reading books that aren’t explicitly about Christ.

This list will be updated periodically as my taste expands and I explore more up to date titles within my preferred genres, but for now, here is a list of (mostly) clean/Christian authors and books that I’ve read over the years and didn’t find corny, irritating, or boring.
